Katarina began to skate at age five. old. She was only five when her talent became evident, and at the age of Karl-Marx-Stadt she was accepted into an institution specifically designed for children with sporting talents. The school was where she met Jutta Muller in this school. Witt had her first breakthrough year in 1982, when she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt drew the attention of the world and she's dominated her sport ever since. Olympic success At the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Games, Katarina Witt came through a closely race to claim the women's figure skating gold medal. After four years, that she was able to take home an even intense race. Witt actually fell short of the free-skating competition, but was awarded the gold medal based upon her results in the compulsory figures and the short programme. Witt became the very first time a repeat woman to win the women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was able to return to skating after her accomplishments as a movie actress. She took part in the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Fans were amazed by her, despite the fact that she finished seventh. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame occurred in the year 1995.
